The SEGA PAC-S10 Module for the Laseractive system. The SEGA PAC-S10 Module for the Laseractive is the
most commonly found module for the Laseractive. It plays MEGA-LD games, SEGA CD games, GENESIS carts, but to my suprise it ALSO plays MEGADRIVE carts, having tested it using my Panorama Cotton
cart. The games seem to run smoother on the SEGA module. However, the load time for CD games is a good five
seconds!.The unit boots up with a custom menu: Open CD, Open LD, or Memory manager. The LD games for the SEGA module are rather unremarkable. Perhaps in their time they were revolutionary looking, but almost all of the LD games are like playing Dragon's Lair.Of the SEGA MEGA-LD games, Pyramid Patrol is the most fun, and by the way, is BRUTALLY hard. The game draws comparison to Starblade Alpha, another LD game (but available on PSX) that for some reason never made it to Laseractive.Other than the MEGA-LD software, and the smoothness of gameplay while using the module, it's like having a SEGA CD/GENESIS setup. One benefit however is DIGITAL OPTICAL OUT and GREAT SOUND!. I've never heard the genesis sound so good! The inside of the module looks like a prototype CDX, but has this huge LD interface board on the top. The BIOS is on a socketed ROM, so a theoretical dual ROM boot is possible. But then you'd need to put a switch on the Module. A VERY solid piece of hardware. Rating 10 of 10. The best Genesis experience you'll ever get.
I'm working on hacking a 32x to fit around the controller ports. I don't know what will happen, as there is the LD factor. My guess is that it will not work. :-) I'll hope for a cool "not compatible with
PAC-S10" message. But how do I mix the video says gamesfan #1? Maybe I can pull it out of the module itself if the output on the laseractive doesn't suffice. Ahhhhh! It's just 32x, not like it's worth $5 |
