CRACK IT OPEN!    "You ate a lot of lead paint chips when you were little, right?"

Mmm.... Paint chips...

LEFT SIDE

RIGHT SIDE

As you can see, the screen is heavily shielded, but the control board is not. The interesting point being that the screen is connected to the board as an additional screen against interferance. But right in the middle of all this is a big magnet (the speaker)... I don't get it. But as we go along, you'll see that design quirks abound in the express. (To be kind)

The right side is FAR more interesting, and presents the first quirk... A lot of this is obviously done by hand. And in my express, not very well... Top left, there's this HUGE  gob of insulator sealant, some scraped away... Seems the switch didn't work, he had to scrape off the insulator, and put a new one on.

QUIRK #1..As you will notice, the power runs right into the board without any real purification (You'll get to a real nice scan of that area soon). That's the reason why you can't use rechargables. The components aren't screened well, and they will go snap crackle pop with the use or rechargable batteries have.
