Just look at this, isn't it one of the smallest designs you've seen? This thing pre-dates gamecube by 10+ years. It's smaller too... Even
if you stack the CD-ROM and the core unit, it's still SMALLER than gamecube "AKA my first console, or, Tinkywinky's choice". Why was the Turbografx so big? Did they think we would feel "Cheated"? Perhaps
the thought was "American like big car, so we will give them more black Type 3 plastic than it takes to make a small plane!" hmm. Perhaps NEC owned a 70% stake in "Mishimura black plastics". Anywho, let's look at the
board. The system has a seperate board for the Hu-CARD slot, and it's got a few chips on it. My guess is to save space since they probably couldn't fit another chip onto the already crowded board.
