O.K... You've heard of the HiSaturn. You might even own one. But then there is the Car GPS NAVI HiSaturn. (This has to be the most obscene Saturn
I have ever seen. There are no words really). I was floored when I heard they were going to produce the NAVI HiSaturn. I wondered why Hitachi would
make such a niche item. I soon realized that Hitachi was already deeply involved in Saturn. They produced the SH2 Chips in the Saturn, as well as the VideoCD Card (among other things). It's an small step
to modify the already existing Saturn architecture for GPS. The research is done already, so you save on costs. If you think about it, the GPS Navi HiSaturn is really the most extreme system mod ever
made :-) . I've looked for one of these for almost 4 years. When I found one on Ebay, the seller decided in the last hour that he just couldn't part
with it, and cancelled the auction. Bidding was at a brisk $1800. On to the unit: The unit is a heavily modified Saturn with added funtion buttons.
The normally menu only functions like Karaoke, pitch, Echo and more are all available as buttons. The GPS function is software and hardware. The
hardware is the antenna and interface, the software the GPS software. The screen is a high quality TFT screen, and extemely well made. Don't be duped
into buying the unit without the screen. I have yet to see it offered seperately. Contrary to what you would assume, the Monitor does not fit into the cart
slot. If you look at the picture of the bottom of the unit, you will see a little ridge on the back. I've been offerd these units at almost cost. If you have
the cash to blow I'd be happy to set you up with a new , boxed unit and screen. For $3000. Forget you saw these pictures... Slowly back away... Nothing here...
Nothing at all... Special thanks to Yoyok Setyawan for his pictures.. Though I would
have prefered to have bought the unit instead... :-) |
