AIWA MEGA CD / CD RADIO COMBO

This has to be one of the most unbelievable console permutations. A radio. A game console. Who would have thought. Well Aiwa was cool enough (or foolish) to release the AIWA MCD unit. The unit acts as a radio until the mega CD docking unit is added. Add a CD interface and some other easy to design parts, and voila! Really expensive gaming! What we really need is a radio that is far more expensive than the competition. Add compatibility with a really unpopular game system. Poof! The Aiwa MCD.

The unit has a very small, very compact design. Most Japanese radios are made this way, as space is at a premium. The unit is simple for the eventual destiny as a cutting edge game system.

The unit docks to the CD unit via locking points. There is no pass through on the bottom of the radio. The connections are cumbersome.

The two units interact via a large interface cable. The cable actually pokes out a bit, making it easy to snag. I have no idea why they never made an up-down matching hard connector. To the right of the bottom connection is the video out.

Connected to the SUPER 32X, it's the ultimate Megadrive/CD/32x setup. However, the 32x makes the unit ride up in the front.

Impressed? I was. A really nice setup if.. you ..can..afford..it..

Q & A

Q: How hard is it to get these? Is it expensive? Are they easy to ship?

A: This will require you sell both your kidneys, and your friend's retinas.

Q: Should I bother? Is it worth it? Where can I get one?

A: Fly to Japan. It's cheaper there. If you can afford this, just go to Japan.
